(SAME LIVELIHOOD) FOR PERSONS LIVING WITH DISABILITIES PROJECT

ALSAR, in a targeted initiative following the devastating floods of September 2024, launched a fully self-funded program to address the unique challenges faced by Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) in accessing agricultural livelihoods. Recognizing that subsistence farming is a powerful path to food security and independence, we developed a sensitization and training program to empower PLWDs with essential skills and knowledge in agriculture in MMC Borno State.

This initiative was a direct response to the specific obstacles PLWDs face in accessing livelihood opportunities in Borno State and was designed to foster sustainable pathways toward self-reliance. The training was facilitated by the Director General of the Borno State Agency for the Great Green Wall (BOAGGW), who provided instruction on basic farming techniques and effective fertilizer usage. Participants were also provided with fertilizers, encouraging them to cultivate their own food.

Key achievements included:
• Increased awareness and knowledge of small-scale farming techniques among participants.
• Enhanced capacity to adopt subsistence agriculture for improved livelihoods.
• Distribution of fertilizer, which enhanced food security for participants.
• Positive participant feedback, indicating the program’s relevance and accessibility.

With this initiative, ALSAR reinforced its commitment to promoting inclusive food security and sustainable livelihoods, ensuring that every member of the community has the chance to build a resilient future.
