EMPOWERING GIRLS AND BREAKING BARRIERS THROUGH ACCESS TO MENSTRUAL HYGIENE AWARENESS

Inspired by the commemoration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day, Anchor for Life Support and Resilience (ALSAR) launched a fully self-funded menstrual hygiene initiative for adolescent girls in MMC LGA. The project targeted girls who had limited knowledge in relation to their menstrual health, with the goal of equipping these girls with the knowledge and support they need to manage their periods with confidence and dignity.

Through this initiative, ALSAR taught the girls how to calculate their menstrual cycle, use reusable pads, and maintain proper personal hygiene while menstruating. Reusable pads were also distributed to the girls, which is a crucial part of the program. This simple yet profound understanding gives them control over their own bodies, helping them realize that menstruation is a natural process, not an illness or a barrier to achieving their goals, like attending school or going about their daily activities. Seeing their excitement and engagement reinforces our belief that giving young women these practical skills is a powerful step toward a healthier and more confident future for them all.

Key achievements included:
β€’ Empowering adolescent girls with practical knowledge on calculating their menstrual cycle and maintaining hygiene.
β€’ Distributing reusable pads to provide a sustainable solution for menstrual health.
β€’ Building confidence and a sense of dignity in girls regarding their menstrual health.
β€’ Assuring girls that menstruation is not a barrier to their daily activities or school attendance.
β€’ Reinforcing the belief that equipping young women with these skills leads to a more confident future for all.

This initiative is a testament to ALSAR’s belief that investing in the health and dignity of young women is a fundamental step toward building a healthier and resilient community.
